Map Help Page: Using the Online Map Tool

   Please follow the instructions on this page to familiarize yourself with the Online Map tool.


    Map Window

       

    The map window allows the user to see different information based on the tools and layers selected. Along the sides of the map are PAN buttons. Use these buttons to shift the map in the direction the button is pointing.



    Map Layer List


       

    Notice the Layer Menu on the left-hand side of the page. This menu allows you to change map layer visiblity. A layer represents one type of information displayed on the map, i.e. Major Streets. Anytime you change the visibility of your layers the map will Refresh itself, so the screen may flicker or jump. Use the check boxes to turn layers on or off.



    Tool Box

       
    The Toolbar is located on the left-hand side of the screen above the Layer Menu. There are four tool buttons you may use to help you view map layers.
    1. Map Help   This button opens the help window.
    2. Original Map   This button refreshes the map to its original view, the entire City.
    3. Refresh Map   This button also refreshes the map, but not to the original view. Occasionally your browser may freeze. If this happens, and you want the map to refresh to where you last had it set, click this button.
    4. View Legend   This button will open a new window with a legend in it. A legend tells you what all of the symbols on a map represent. For instance, the black lines represent Major Streets.
    5. Print Map   This button pops up a window displaying the print image from your screen. To send the image to the printer select File and Print.



    Map Tools

     
    The Map Tools are located under the map window. There are multiple buttons you may use to help you analyze the map.
    1. Zoom In
         

      This button will zoom in and recenter the map at the point where you click. To use this button click once on the button, and then click once on the map.


    2. Zoom Out
         

      This button acts the same way as Zoom In, only it zooms out.



    3. Recenter
         

      This button will recenter the map at the point where you click. It will not zoom in or zoom out. Use it the same way you use the zoom tools.


    4. Identify
         
      Click this button and then click on any symbol found on the map. This will open a map features window, giving you information about things found where you clicked. Keep in mind, if more than one feature are found under your click, then information about multiple features will be displayed.




    Search Tools

     
    The Search tools are available below the map tools.You may search by either address or subdivision.
    1. Address Search
         








      This tool will allow you to search for a specific property location. You may enter partial information to search for a location. For example, you can enter "Throck" to find "Throckmorton". This tool return a choice list on the right side of your screen. Note that private property and apartment complexes will not be available.

    2. Subdivision Search
         





      This tool will user to search for a specific subdivision. A drop down list will allow the user to chose a valid Fort Worth subdivision.
