Map Help Page: Using the Online Map Tool
Please follow the instructions on this page to familiarize yourself with the
Online Map tool.
Map Window

The map window allows the user to see different information based on the tools and layers selected. Along the sides of the map are PAN buttons.
Use these buttons to shift the map in the direction the button is pointing.
Map Layer List

Notice the Layer Menu on the left-hand side of the page. This menu allows you to change map layer
visiblity. Anytime you change the visibility of your layers the map will Refresh itself, so the
screen may flicker or jump. Use the check boxes to turn layers on or off.
Tool Box

The Toolbar is located on the left-hand side of the screen above the Layer Menu.
There are four tool buttons you may use to help you view map layers.
- Original Map   This button refreshes the map to its original view.
- Refresh Map   This button also refreshes the map, but not to the original view.
Occasionally your browser may freeze. If this happens, and you want the map to refresh to where you last had
it set, click this button.
- View Legend   This button will open a new window with a legend in it. A legend tells you what all of the symbols on a map
stand for. For instance, you do not know whether those green lines on the map are railroads, rivers, or roads???
Open the legend to find out!
- Print Map   This button pops up a window displaying the print image from your screen. To send the image to the printer select File and Print.
- Map Help   This button opens the help window.
- Address Verify   This feature allows the user to determine whether multiple addresses are located
in special areas. A report is generated upon completion.
Map Tools

The Map Tools are located under the map window. There are multiple buttons you may use to help you analyze the map.
- Zoom In

This button will zoom in and recenter the map at the point where you click. To
use this button click once on the button, and then click once on the map.
- Zoom Out

This button acts the same way as Zoom In, only it zooms out.
- Recenter

This button will recenter the map at the point where you click. It will not
zoom in or zoom out. Use it the same way you use the zoom tools.
- Identify

Click this button and then click on any symbol found on the map. This will open
a map features window, giving you information about things found where you clicked. Keep in mind,
if more than one feature are found under your click, then information about multiple features
will be displayed.
- Find Address

This is the trickiest tool. Use it to locate an address. When you click this tool, a form will open prompting you
to type an address. Enter an address and click FIND. The computer will place a marker on the map at the address
you entered. Also, if you place a check in the box next to "zoom to address", the map will zoom to
the new marker. If you are unable to find an address, try change the street name. Example: 1250 South Freeway to 1250 South.
